that’s ok, we didn’t really expect you guys to help anyway…

rush and the extreme right wing lunatic fringe of the republican party have wasted no time in showing the american public that they don’t give a rat’s ass about america. they oppose every solution that obama proposes and then they duck behind a fence like cowards when the bail-out is voted on and passed by the democratic majority. that shows real leadership doesn’t it?

i do give rush some points for at least being honest about putting his career ahead of america’s future by declaring that he hopes america fails…but as an american who is willing to pitch in and help , i declare him and the rest of the extreme right wing conservatives lazycowards for standing on the sidelines and booing those of us, like obama who haven’t thrown in the towel. but as one football coach once told us….if you don’t have your heart in this game…if you aren’t willing to give your all to win…then you and your so-called bullshit talent can just sit on the bench and watch the rest of us do it for you…

  1. ” rush and the extreme right wing lunatic fringe of the republican party have wasted no time in showing the american public that they don’t give a rat’s ass about america.”

Wow. So, you’re telling me that EVERY GOP member of the US House of Representatives is a “right wing lunatic”?

“…but as an american who is willing to pitch in and help…”

That’s sooooo awesome and progressive of you!! Does that mean you’re gonna pony-up extra cash to the Feds on the 1st and the 15th to help fund this amazing program?!

I dig your football analogy…it’s like, I can totally relate to your warped view of how the world should work, cuz, ya know, I like football too!

To use the same sort of analogy relating to Obama and his policies…”I’m rooting for the team (USA) not the coach (Obama).”

    GO STEELERS!

  2. you and the rest of the extreme right lunatics just go ahead and take a powder then rusty. with your coach out of a job there’s nothing in it for you and your rich mercenary friends anyway.

  3. You Leftys are priceless….What makes you assume I’m rich?

Seriously, what color is the sky in your world?

  4. JC

“you’re telling me that EVERY GOP member of the US House of Representatives is a “right wing lunatic”?”

Rusty, are you here to tell us they’re not? What does the republican party get when most of the once republican, moderate cong. districts vote for democrat in House races? A republican rump = lunatic fringe.

“Seriously, what color is the sky in your world?”

Up here on the surface it’s been a pretty grey winter Rusty. But when the sun shines, the sky is oh, so blue! You oughta surface every once and a while and take a look. That’s if you can get a pass out of that hell hole you republicans have dug for yourselves.

  5. Problembear:

there’s nothing in it for you (Rusty)and your rich mercenary friends (not Rusty)

    Rusty:

What makes you assume I’m rich?

    He didn’t.

This has been another edition of simple answers to stupid questions.

And Rusty, please learn to read.

  6. I’m adamantly opposed to the solution, so does that make me anti-American? Hmm, that sounds kind of familiar.

  7. JC

Doug, if you’re parroting the dittohead creed that you want Obama to fail, and by failing you mean the country sinks into a depression, then yes, that is anti-American.

Rush’s words are the 9/11 terrorist attack of the lunatic republican fringe on America. It is every bit as dangerous as anything that Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda have, or will cook up.

Dittoheads are the new anti-American terrorist group, and should be outed for the dangers they represent to this country and the people living in it.

  8. Wow…only 10 days into a new administration and you’re already calling the other side of the aisle terrorists. Very impressive.

  9. JC

How long did it take the right wing to label the anti-war folks as sympathizers in Vietnam? How long did it take for the right wing to label those who wanted out of Iraq and wanted to limit funding as being “against the troops.”

Well, Rusty, it’s time for you and your right wing cohorts to start supporting the troops. Except this time the troops are the Obama administration, and the war they are fighting is for America’s economic security.

You going to support the troops Rusty? Or are you rooting for America to fail like the dittoheads are? Simple as that.

The dittoheads wishing for Obama to fail, and take the economy into depression, is no different from Osama bin Laden’s war of economic attrition that he instigated with the attacks of 9/11.

Except this time they are more insidious: they’re perpetrated by a group of malcontent anti-American right wing republicans from with our own borders.

  10. “Onward, Obama soldiers, marching as to war,”

I just pictured a group of the new castrati wearing jackboots, lookin’ all-extra butch. LOL

  11. JC

Laugh all you want Rusty. Rush is setting up the remains of the republican party for banishment to the wilderness of irrelevancy.

  12. OK. Thanks for the heads up!

You sure are smart…I bet you even went to college!

  13. Something tells me you didn’t, Rusty. Now why would I get the feeling that you might be the kind of person who would lie about his credentials …

  14. O.K. JC, so if I’m not with you, then I’m against you, right?

  15. more like useless bench-warmers doug. but, i am sure you’ll show up for a ring after we pull this off. your quarterback threw a lot of interceptions so obama is going to need real players now…

  16. Lizard

More substantial insight into the looming catastrophes we face I see. Kudos all around.

  17. Man, this gloating bull is getting old, fellow lefties.

And Doug makes a salient point in his last comment, all but confirmed by you, problembear. There’s few on the right who are willing to venture out to lefty blogs and engage in relevant discussions, and he’s one of them. That you simply dismiss him and call him a “bench-warmer” speaks to your character more than it does to his.

This comment thread has filled my disgust quota for the week.

  18. Steve T., at some point you do have to admit that elections have consequences, and rightly so. I too am saddened that Doug has gotten caught up in the blowback leveled at trolls like Rustysyd. But the ground on which one can be so judgmental is pretty shaky when the Republican death cry is so corrosive (see Rush Limbaugh.)

As problembear amply points out, the Republican Congressional Delegation speaks of ‘bipartisanship’ when they act as one, truly partisan. Some of my forebears called that ‘speaking with a forked tongue’. That’s not likely to be well received, nor should it be.

Yep, the right and the left have some serious trust issues. But it isn’t just your “fellow lefties” who are contributing to those. Kindly keep that in mind.

  19. pardon moi steve if this thread is upsetting your delicate feelings. it most certainly is not gloating. this country faces what may well be one of the deepest depressions it has ever faced and some of us work hard helping those who fall through the cracks. it is about me and a whole lot of people trying to fix the bush-crash being very pissed off at the far right for hoping america fails just to further their paranoid and hatefilled political aims.

i am not a fellow lefty. i am an independent. i mistrust the far left as much as i mistrust the far right. some of us have to do more than theorize…some of us have to roll up our sleeves and do the blue collar work required to relieve the suffering now, because that is what is happening ivory tower boy, people are suffering out there….

  20. Lizard

    Harsh Reality

  21. reality lizard? really? spend a day with me and i will show you some reality that does not involve staring at a computer screen. we all believe what we believe, but that article seems to draw a lot of conclusions based on 10 days in office.

one of the dangers of getting out ahead of the mainstream and the majority of public opinion with crackpot theories is that you and your causes could get trampled in the stampede….

  22. sorry about bluff-charging you doug, lizard and steve…but it is time to tell fat-cats like limbaugh and his ilk just what the hell america thinks of their traitorous, greedy, hypocritical asses. you see, these bastards can sit back and hope america fails because they have well stocked bunkers loaded with everything they need to survive. they can afford to stand by and puff on cubans and sip glenfiddich while watching america’s unemployed and poor suffer….and if we fail, our children will have to come crawling to them for sustenance. that is what they hope for gentlemen, whether you believe it or not. darth vader could not possibly be as evil as these so called americans.

  23. Lizard

instead of implying your personal day to day reality is more legitimate than mine (and for a blogger to call me out on staring at a computer is pretty ridiculous) why don’t you take a step back and look at why a thread like this is doomed from the start.

By spreading the despicable virulent spewing of Rush you are framing and limiting the scope of dialogue to the predictable back and forth displayed above. I would suggest you do what you do best: help tell the stories of working folks who are struggling right now, and avoid the party antagonism of goading and gloating. It gets you nowhere.

As for crackpot theories, more tax cuts, pork, and shifting toxic assets to a “bad bank” are beyond crackpot; its fiscal suicide.

  24. Lizard

Cross-Posting, PB, and apology accepted. Coincidently NPR just piped up about covering the “Rush Controversy” during “On The Media” which airs on Sundays, 6pm.

  25. gotta let it out lizard – gotta let it out. you worry about what you write. i’ll worry about what i write….fair enough?

  26. klemz

I fail to see the courage in posting anonymously on an unlike-minded blog vs. a like-minded one.

I fail to see the courage in any form of anonymity. Of course, I’m not saying people here are cowards, but they’re certainly not brave either.

  27. people know who we are klemz. i am with j-girl in stating that it should be about what it is about – not who. failing that. is there something you wish to discuss besides calling out all anonymous bloggers???

it takes a lot of guts to be a reporter willing to put it on the line with his/her name. i will grant you that, but we are not professional journalists here. we get paid zero for this. that is zero as in $0.00. so cut us some slack while we battle on here klemz…some of us need our day jobs, ok?

  28. Wulfgar –

I agree – elections do have consequences – but more than anything they are consequences in and of themselves. Republicans took power and priority #1 became keeping power – they turned every piece of the executive branch and turned them into arms of the Republican Party. They lavished pork upon their states and contracts upon their industry supporters. But none of that quite mattered anyways – Americans don’t really pay attention to that stuff. What mattered is that they overstepped their bounds in every way possible as quickly as they possibly could. Never in American History has such one sided party rule collapsed so quickly and been turned over to the other side so thoroughly. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t see the same tendencies in our Democratic Congress. But it’s only been 10 days….

problembear – I’ve noticed this about you – you go overboard sometimes on people who don’t deserve it – but within 30 minutes you apologize, going back to the cutesy “I’m a pretend bear” talk and think everything will be hunky dory.

You speak in grand terms and paint with one of the broadest brushes I’ve ever seen in the blogosphere. That you’ve put me in an ivory tower without knowing a thing about me says as much.

The bottom line is that Doug pinned you – you’re a “with us or against us” kind of person. There’s no nuance for you. It’s a shame, really. I think you’ve got a decent perspective on things – but this isn’t The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars – where one side is clearly good and the other side is clearly bad.

Just because some people have legitimate questions about whether or not raising the Federal Government’s debt ceiling to $12-15 Trillion dollars doesn’t mean they hate all working people. I think there’s a legitimate case to be made for whether or not the risk is worth the reward.

  29. goof houlihan

Only a Sith deals in absolutes…wait, isn’t THAT statement an absolute?

It’s a “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” from both sides, isn’t it? I’d say the opposition was bipartisan, with 11 democrats voting against the sodding of the national Darth Mall by spoon wielding non skilled racial stereotypes not in the construction industry, thanks mr reich you win the hoof in mouth of the week. We will cut the grass next week, using nostril hair trimmers and call it full employment.

Who started it, this absolutism? I dunno, but I hear it regardless of which dinner it is, Jefferson-Jackson or Lincoln-Reagan.

  30. And just in case you’re wondering – Rush Limbaugh is, indeed, a douchebag.

  31. goof houlihan

Well inflated, quite full, in fact, perhaps even blowing a seam.

  32. klemz

I’m not calling you out, bear. I meant what I said in that post and not an ounce more, not an ounce less.

Somebody gave Doug courage-props for posting on a liberal forum anonymously. I responded. Then I considered the ancillary message of my post and clarified it in an honest way. That clarification was not inteaded to drive a greater point home.

    Sorry if I’m naturally blunt.

  33. goof houlihan

I don’t think we need to be “brave” to have a conversation.

  34. i was one of the first to be against bail-outs of any kind. still think it is an insane way to treat any economy. propping up only insures a bigger fall in the end…so i understand why people would question this steve. the odd thing is now that the middle class might get some help the republicans (even the ones who crossed over for bailing out banks) are more than happy to hold the line against helping the unemployed find work. don’t you find that hypocrisy a little appalling? it is certainly telling for rush and the republicans who agree with him to wish for america to fail. i found that pretty appalling behavior, and as you know i do not believe in rewarding bad behavior…with silence.

  35. klemz

“I don’t think we need to be “brave” to have a conversation.”

Nope. And if that’s the only point, then I agree entirely. Let me just say that the state of the world is not a product of any lack of compassion, but something else.

  36. Big Swede

Wow, 430k total hits on this blog. Rush, on any given day 20M. Maybe you guys should back away from the bong and go doctor shopping.

  37. thanks for showing up here swede…no matter how bad i am- you always make me look a little better.

  38. JC

“O.K. JC, so if I’m not with you, then I’m against you, right?”

Only if you live in a black and white universe, Doug. You can be against me if you want. I don’t really care. My whole point in this thread isn’t that people are opposed tp the stimulus. I’ve got serious problems with parts of it, myself.

But I don’t herald the failure of Obama and his policies, like the dittoheads are. You can be against the stimulus, and still wish that Obama succeeds.

It’s just like the war in Iraq. You can be against the war, but not want to see the U.S. lose. You can define victory in many ways, particularly when Bush wasn’t able to clearly articulate what victory in Iraq was, much less how to describe victory in “the war on terror.”

It’s the same with the economy. You can criticize the stimulus, but still want victory: for the country to avoid a depression.

Rush doesn’t want that. He wants Obama’s policies to fail, and for the country to suffer the consequences: depression. That is as anti-American as wanting the U.S to lose the war in Iraq.

  39. Fair enough, JC. I didn’t come in here to argue about Rush one way or the other, though the dittoheads=terrorists thing seems a bit silly to me. Anyway, as I believe the original purveyor of this place once said, I think we’re just collecting stamps here, so perhaps I don’t take any of this as seriously as some of you do. On the other hand I expect blowback, it’s kind of what we do, and it doesn’t bother me at all. Sometimes it even helps when you’re trying to get a point across (see above).

Finally, I don’t know who klemz is, but I can assure him/her a couple of things: 1) I don’t think I’m brave for coming in here, just masochistic, and 2) I ain’t anonymous, but those who choose anonymity don’t bother me in the least.

  40. Rush/Dittoheads = Capitalists

    Obama/His Followers = Socialists

    ’nuff said.

  41. ladybug

Corporate capitalists vs. corporate socialists, how quaint. Both teams’ cheerleaders follow the script to distract. The truth is too much to bear, eh bear?

  42. the truth is the majority of americans don’t give a damn how you label it; left, right, whatever…they just want to be able to feed their families. most of the people i talk to distrust government in all it’s forms, but now they also definitely distrust capitalism after wall street turned out to be a pack of robbers and jackals…so what is left to guide us? well, we have a new president gathering folks around the table trying to figure that out. the point of this post was to say that people like rush and his followers who want america to fail deserve no seat at the table with attitude like that. none.

  43. ladybug

I was simply trying to point out that the shape of the table matters little if nobody has the guts to do what is necessary to correct the problems. Let’s begin with the Fed, which controls our money. It’s not part of OUR government. It should be brought within the system of checks and balances but Congress (both parties) have abdicated. We control our money and monetary policy, we can begin to do the other things like universal health care and infrastructure upgrades that have been neglected for far too long. Neither name-brand party is talking, or acting, on this fundamental cause. Check out http://www.monetery.org.

  44. JC

    That would be http://www.monetary.org/, ladybug.

  45. thanks, jc for clearing that up. i can stop swearing at my browser now… thanks for the link ladybug…i wish we had preview for links in comments.
