9/11 – A National Day of Service and Remembrance
by JC

9/11 is an event burned into the memories of all Americans old enough to have watched the events of that day. While we all may have different ways we looked at that moment of terror, and the actions that swept our nation to war, today is a good day to put aside those differences and engage in common purpose.
911DayOfService.org, the official site for MyGoodDeed, is the focal point of the first official National Day of Service and Remembrance:
“Our mission is to honor the victims of 9/11 and those who rose to service in response to the attacks by encouraging all Americans and others throughout the world to pledge to voluntarily perform at least one good deed, or another service activity on 9/11 each year. In this way we hope to create a lasting and forward-looking legacy — annually rekindling the spirit of service, tolerance, and compassion that unified America and the world in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks”
You can go to their site, and see what other people are doing for their service, and search for a project in your area and interests to get involved. Many projects are ongoing, and you can volunteer anytime.

Update:
David Paine, Co-founder of MyGoodDeed weighed in today with some commentary about the politicization of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance:
“For the record, the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is widely backed by the Left, Middle and Right and is not, in any way, a government led or funded initiative created by President Obama or any government agency. It was started by the 9/11 community eager to leave a lasting and positive legacy honoring their lost loved ones, and is supported by respected nonprofits such as the Points of Light Institute, founded with the help of former President George Bush Sr., AARP, America’s Promise Alliance, City Year, ServiceNation, and many other wonderful and nonpartisan groups…”

I resolve, that some time between anniversaries of this day in Sept., I will address the vermin that did this haneous act not by the rightful name “terrorist” but by a more politically correct term, “insurgent”.

And don’t forget 9/11/1973…or 9/11/1857.
