“Republican Health Care Plan: Don’t get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly”

Now just where is that Republican health care plan that Cantor and Boehner promised the country months ago?
Last night, in a controversial speech on the House floor, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) announced that the Republican alternative health care proposals would force sick Americans to “die quickly”:
It’s my duty and pride tonight to be able to announce exactly what the Republicans plan to do for health care in America… It’s a very simple plan. Here it is. The Republican health care plan for America: “don’t get sick.” If you have insurance don’t get sick, if you don’t have insurance, don’t get sick; if you’re sick, don’t get sick. Just don’t get sick. … If you do get sick America, the Republican health care plan is this: “die quickly.”
Anybody want to defend republican support for the status quo here?
And for those that think republicans have a plan for health care reform, why didn’t they git ‘er done during their time in control of Congress and the Bush White House?
And all of you with out-dated conservative ideas and/or tea bagger noise with no political base to work from, you’re just pissin’ in the wind here.

many in america already choose to die before their medical bills can bankrupt their families. we should be ashamed and humiliated as a country that such a choice is even contemplated or necessary. instead we allow corporate interests to divide our resolve and we argue among ourselves like hyenas over a rotting carcass as to how to pay for it. i am ashamed of this entire country.
one would think that a barbaric system wherein those with the gold get the medical care would be too abhorrent to even defend but the level of depravity in this country seems to be endlessly supplying us with those who would defend it.
i don’t think i will ever get used to seeing people who behave this selfishly toward their fellow man.

i knew a very conservative independent tradesman who chose to die of a treatable cancerous condition rather than begin the very expensive (and painful) treatments because he had worked very hard to provide land and a home for his family and other assets that would surely have been consumed after his privately purchased health care policy with blue cross would have given out. the doctor told him 50/50 chance of survival and he chose no treatments. he was dead in less than a year. his family stiill has the home but they miss him terribly.
i will say it again….what a barbaric system. this country should hang their head in shame. the health care bill as it now is shaping up does nothing to solve it. only single payer will bring america out of the dark ages and redeem itself as a nation worthy of any respect.

I suppose you would have chosen to put your family in financial jeopardy.
My grandfather died of prostate cancer. When he was told he had it, he asked how long he had if he had chemo and how long without chemo. There was little difference and, being the hero he was, he chose the least expensive option of no chemo. My grandmother eventually helped him out with a little “extra” morphine and ended his pain a few days early. I guess she was his “death panel”.

want a good strategy for taking the initiative out of the hands of the right wingers re health care, democrats? simply come out of conference committee with a strong public option component and force the republicans to react by opposing a health bill with the support of 72% of americans…..
this will surely infuriate the health insurers who will ally with the republicans. win or lose, this will be gold we can cash in for the next two election cycles and finally get single payer.
as it stands now the bill is so screwed up with compromise no-one supports it. make a clear stand on public option that forces the republicans to oppose it. then let’s finally throw six feet of dirt on the party of the dead elephant once and for all.

We already had a republican solution, remember Medicare Part D? So just don’t get sick until your covered by Medicare and then only get sick with something that expensive prescription drugs can take care of.
Oh wait… Part D wasn’t meant to help Americans, it was meant to guarantee the profits of a few friends of our honorable legislators from tax-payer coffers
