anti-government extremist David Burgert at large after shoot-out with law

by problembear

David Burgert, once the leader of the Project 7 anti-government group in Flathead County is at large tonight in the woods west of Lolo MT. after shooting at sheriff’s deputies Burgert ditched his jeep and grabbed some equipment and bushwhacked toward an area known as Wagon mountain near petty creek road between lolo and alberton. he is armed and dangerous, presumably desperate and very committed to not being caught. anyone who sees this man pictured above should call 911 immediately. do not approach or attempt to apprehend. he is believed to be acting alone. Burgert has brown hair, brown eyes, stands 6’2″ and was wearing a blue shirt when last seen.

Burgert has quite a history.

  1. Pogue Mahone

What a dumbass. And good Teapartier.

    • Ingemar Johansson

Another empty seat on Palin’s bus.

      • Pogue Mahone

That’s a good one, Ingrid. Luv it. One less village idiot missing. But in all fairness, the articles mention that this dude may have some real psychological problems. And if that’s the case, he needs help. Whereas Palin is simply a certifiable dumbass. No cure for that.

    • Kirsten

Really? Where did you read that he’s a member of the Tea Party?

i can’t get too specific, but i had a run in with this guy about a month ago. i never got a name, but he cited his previous stint in prison for a standoff as a reason not to fuck with him. i searched around on the net, but never came up with anything. then this breaks tonight, and i’m looking at him on my (new, lovely) iphone.

what really creeps me out is, during this exchange, he snapped a picture of me with his phone, and told me i had made a big mistake crossing him.

i hate to say it, but part of me hopes he gives the cops a reason to shoot him.

    • now that the FBI and federal marshals are on the ground i believe you won’t have any reason to worry about this guy anymore lizard. they don’t take kindly to taking shots at law enforcement personnel. they will probably just take him out, but if he does surrender (i doubt he will) there is a looooooong sentence waiting for him in prison.

he will either be dead or he won’t be out until he is way past 70.

this isn’t any small charge. aiming with deadly force in the direction of a peace officer is serious time.

  3. Home Grown Terrorism vs Gov’t Terrorism ?

i feel for all the innocent people in the area who are in fear for their lives. it is a terribly unpleasant experience.

How is it that this miscreant is out of prison?

    • Kirsten

I have been puzzling over that one myself. He’s out early from his last prison sentence on probation. He hardly seems like a poster boy for getting out early. I bet whoever(s) made that decision are wetting their pants right about now.

I dont remember Rambo wearing a fanny pack.

  5. and now comes this idiot again….. http://www.kxlh.com/news/tea-party-wants-city-of-helena-to-review-its-gun-law/

yeah. that’s a good idea. let’s allow any so-called constitutionalist moron with an antigovernment agenda to pack heat wherever he goes.

  6. Burgert is dangerous, but not in a political sense. He has a friend or two, but the only band of his followers that’s growing in number is the posse chasing him.

Terrorism is violence in the service of a political idea and/or movement. For example, the FLN or Al Quaeda. Project 7 was/ is nothing more than a guy with a gripe and a grudge and a gun. He’s personally dangerous, but politically harmless.

  7. That would make Geronimo a ‘terrorist’? your definition leaves much to be desired. In fact it’s down-right pathetic and demeaning. You could easily put the First American Revolutionary’s down as terrorists… ?

However, ‘not dangerous in a political sense’ except that he uses up Tax payer funds for his innocuous clown politics.

    • Your answer makes absolutely no sense to me. I did not say that all violence in the service of a political idea or movement is terrorism.

If you have what you think is a better definition of terrorism, publish it as a reply.

      • Terrorism is violence in the service of a political idea and/or movement.

i think i was pretty clear in my response to the above ‘quote’.

One Man’s Freedom Fighter is another man’s Terrorist. The definition cannot be made with a broad brush. i reject the Broad Brush on who may be morally right in their quest for “???” (Insert whatever) however Freedom/Liberty is usually the reason.

Action against The Slave Holder is always framed as being done by ‘Terrorists’ The ideology of the Slave holder is what constitutes the Action in the First Place.

The person who is the subject of this thread is a Criminal albeit a Tyrannical Criminal; there is no “terrorist”. Same for the so called Terrorist of Oklahoma City T McVeigh – he was a mass murderer.

        • In reading your replies, I sense that you object to my definition of terrorism, mainstream as it is, because you fear it can be used to blacken the reputation of oppressed peoples who are fighting for their freedom. Yes, it can, and I find nothing wrong with that. Oppressed peoples can seek their freedom in ways that are nobel, and in ways that are so depraved that terrorism seems to mild a term to describe them. But my brush is not as wide as you think. I repeat: not ALL violence committed in pursuit of political ends is terrorism.

The point I was trying to make is this: Project 7 notwithstanding, Burgert is not politically dangerous. He’s not generating a following that threatens to seize or intimidate the government. My view of him is that he’s a man of grudges and gripes, not man of ideas. He’s personally dangerous, and scares hell out of some people, but that’s all.

And that’s it for me on this thread. Wrap it up if you wish. Perhaps on other issues we can agree.
