4&20 blackbirds got a shout-out from The Missoula Independent in this Thursday’s edition, in a brief short looking into the disappearance of Ward 6 candidate Lewie Schneller’s picture from the local Missoula GOP website along with his “I’m a Republican using a Labor Democrat label” campaign motto.

While I encourage a look around, here’s a link to the Lewie story, for your reading convenience.

For those readers who don’t go back in time to check comments, Ward Three’s Bob Jaffe posted a thoughtful response to city council’s email controversy. Go here and then scroll down to the bottom of the comments. Thanks, Bob.

I’m keeping this one floating at the top for a while – it’s that important.  For newer content, you’ll have to read below.

Missoula Community Radio is in the final stages of preparing its FCC application. There is a short window of time with which to apply for a Non-Commercial Educational license – and more importantly, there is only one last signal available in Missoula.

Preparing this application takes not only time, but money. While they have been working and organizing for some time, the application period has been announced – October 12th – 17th. With only one of these signals available – and known competition from a religious right radio station – there may not be another chance.

The FCC scoring system favors broadcasters who represent a broad cross-section of the community and that don’t own full-power stations. These guys and gals already have a lease/buy agreement. Missoula Community Radio was founded in 2005.

The amount they need to raise is fairly nominal – $8,000. I think that could – should- be accomplished in a weekend.

Think about it – I mean, if a whole bunch of us skip the bar for two nights and dine in and hang out with friends, enjoying good conversation and a local growler, the savings should easily amount to that $8,000 that Missoula Community Radio needs to ensure that they can complete the engineering and legal paperwork that has to be done. As I mentioned above – they’ve been working at it – this is just the final time-crunched stretch.

…and in the interest of sharing, my Cowboy Caviar recipe is in the comments.
