Short observation in Ward 2 today

by jhwygirl

I rarely get over that ways nowadays, but had occasion to stop over a friends house.

I really love that area too – it has a real ‘neighborhood’ feel, with sidewalks and boulevards. Lots of Missoula individuality – plenty of unique gardening to those boulevards over there!

I also saw a really nice Planned Neighborhood Cluster (PNC) going up. The homes are on the market for $280,000.

Not very affordable.

Perhaps it was the route I took, but there were sure a lot of Pam Walzer signs around.

What struck me – and I almost went home to get a camera just so I could post the picture here – was one house that had its garage door open. Now, keep in mind that it is election time, and as I said, there were plenty of sky blue Pam Walzer signs all abound – but this house, with its garage door open had 3 or 4 Don Nicholson signs.

Only, the Don Nicholson signs weren’t in the yard – they were in the garage, next to the garbage cans.

  1. I blogged on those condos a while back. I think they’ll end up selling for a lot less. Hold out for $189k!

As for Nicholson’s signs, most of the voting is done already, and lots of people are eager to get rid of their signs. I had to fetch some out of the trash myself.

  2. These wouldn’t be condos Carol – they are individual homes (PNC) – pretty large, less yard, weird property lines – PNC’s allow you to redraw the lines, as long as you don’t increase the lot sizes, and vary from setbacks, so you can build bigger – just as long as you don’t vary from the outer setbacks adjacent to other properties.

  3. Oh I thought you meant the new ones on Burton & Phillips. Actually, townhouses I guess.

  4. I rarely get a chance to read blogs, let alone respond – so here is my first response.

MISSOULA MUNICIPAL ELECTION VOTING IS NOT DONE YET!

There are still lots of folks who haven’t gotten around to sending in their ballots. The turn out is much better than normal, but there are many votes yet to be cast.

For those who have not yet mailed their ballots in – the County Elections Office recommends that you mail no later than Friday, Nov. 2 to ensure the ballot makes it to them in time. Although mail around Missoula is typically next day service, several folks didn’t get their Primary ballots counted because they arrived after “Election Day.”

If you’re not able to get your ballot in the mail in time, not to worry – you can drop it off at the Elections Office any time during normal business hours and until 8 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 6th.

OR – only on “Election Day,” Nov. 6th (7am-8pm)- you can drop your ballot off at any of the following 5 schools: Cold Springs, Hellgate Elementary, Paxson, Rattlesnake, or Russell. (For those voting on issues from outside of city limits – sorry – I don’t know if you have a local drop-off point)

If you did not get a ballot mailed to you, there is a problem with your registration – but you can still vote! You need to go in person to the Elections Office to reregister and then vote at the same time. You can register and vote during normal business hours on Friday, only until noon Monday, Nov. 5, and then from 7am-8 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 6, “Election Day.”

The people at the Elections Office are very helpful and friendly so if you have any questions, please call them at 258-4751 and they will do their best to assist you.

And last but not least – DON’T FORGET TO SIGN THE BACK OF THE ENVELOPE! Without it, your ballot will be rejected. This is the only way the elections office can ensure that you are the one casting your ballot.

Okay – this is the last point – Don Nicholson won 4 years ago by only 5 or 6 votes. Your vote really does count!

Let’s make a change this time around.

    Thanks for the interest,
    Pam Walzer
