New B’birder on Board!

4&20 wants to welcome aboard Jamee Greer, who will be joining us here shortly. As a UM student, Jamee will provide us with a U. perspective, something us fossils around here were somewhat lacking.

He will also write about anything that he darn well pleases.

Jamee was an organizer of the recent anti-gay violence gathering, We Are Missoula: Speak up. Stand OUT!

Welcome aboard Jamee! We’re glad to have you!

  1. Josh Peters-McBride

AWESOME! You could not have a better writer for your journal!!!!

  2. goof houlihan

and a staff member of Forward Montana as well?

  3. A former board member, as I believe.

We’re all members here of Forward Montana, goof.

    Hey…wait…Matt!….Where’s that check!?

  4. I’m not a member of Forward Montana…I didn’t get permission to join from George Soros yet.

  5. Of course there are over 300 members of Fwd Mt in the state, most of them in Missoula, so pretty much anybody who’s active in politics around here is a member, or knows a member, or wants to be a member, but doesn’t know where to sign up.

    (Sign up here.)

  6. goof houlihan

“staff member” isn’t the same as “member” is it, now?

Lots of membership organizations out there that understand the difference between a member of the staff and a general member, or even a board member.

I’m guessing Forward Montana does too.

Tell me, under which shell shall we find the pea today?

“I’m a member, too!”…. Jay, ya gotta stop giving me those straight lines.

  7. Heh. Now, goof, this may be hard to believe, but members and staff members of Forward Montana have their own, unique views of the world and are protected under the First Amendment.

It seems you’re insinuating that Jamee will be an astroturfing spokesperson for the organization. I don’t think he will be. But it doesn’t matter, because it’s all transparent. You know where he works; you can judge for yourself on the quality of the content of his posts.

BTW, considering we’re all (except Rebecca) members and closely associated with Fwd Mt, I’m surprised you still read the blog given your insinuations about the org. Why is that? And what’s your concern, exactly?

  8. goof houlihan

I got a big chuckle out of your attacking reaction to my question. Hey, the answer is “yes”. That’s the open and up front answer, anyway.

“Yes, he is”, so open, so honest, compared to the tortured and tangled web that what was laid out in answer to my question.

I’m intrigued, now, about just what it is that needs to be obscured. “…one’s concern about the ethics of means and ends varies inversely with one’s personal interest in the issue”.

And to your question, Jay, I read it for jhwygirl and Rebecca’s posts about local government.

  9. Jamee Greer

I don’t think anyone was trying to hide anything, Goof.

If you Google my name, you get a million connections to all sorts of things Forward Montana… including the staff bio page.

Of course, it’s no secret that Google is funded primarily by out of state donors. I don’t know if they’re trustworthy.

  10. Gee thanks, Goof. I’m not a member of Forward Montana simply because I’m not much of a joiner–of nearly anything. I don’t want to put words in Jay’s mouth, but I think his reaction was based on the group’s new status as whipping boy for those on the right who never let red baiting go out of style. FM seems to be the new New Party.

  11. Jamee Greer

I thought it might be a good idea to post this here, just so folks can read what organizations I’m connected with.

“Unseasonably cold weather brought three inches of snow to the floor of the Gallatin Valley when Jamee Greer was born, way back in June of 1982. The son of a German immigrant and an Air Force veteran from sunny Florida, Jamee’s parents came to Montana in search of open spaces, cheaper rents, safer communities and a cleaner environment.

Jamee Greer now lives in Missoula and is majoring in the Sociology Department’s Inequality and Social Justice Program at The University of Montana, with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. When he isn’t cramming for exams, or assisting the gang at Forward Montana (full disclosure: his employer!) with upholding democracy, you can find him testing gay and bisexual men for HIV with the Montana Gay Men’s Task Force, fighting for progressive transportation options through ASUM Transportation and reading through pages and pages of zoning code for the Missoula Zoning Re-write Advisory Committee. Jamee occasionally posts for, and is a contributor to Montana’s only queer-press, Out Words. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Western Montana Gay & Lesbian Community Center and doesn’t own a car. These last two things are unrelated, but he doesn’t care.

He also enjoys bicycles, KBGA, Patti Smith, knitting, West Wing reruns and makes a killer latke. You can usually find him on the top floor of the fabulous Mike and Maureen Mansfield Library at The University of Montana or at Missoula’s finest establishment, the Badlander.”

  12. goof houlihan

That’s torn it. I don’t really like Patti Smith.

  13. Jedediah Redman

    What!–no log cabin?

  14. I’m intrigued, now, about just what it is that needs to be obscured.

Openness = obfuscation? Here we go again. Count me out, tho. I don’t want to play “gotcha” with a FwdMt conspiracy theorist.

  15. goof houlihan

Merely pointing out that the new contributor is a Forward Montana STAFF member hardly makes me a “conspiracy theorist”,

But replying to the STAFF member observation in the way that was done wasn’t anything like openness.

As I said, Jay, “yes he is” is “openness”.

  16. Jedediah Redman

Is Forward Montana some sort of proscribed organization–or is all the fuss simply sophistry..?
