CoC, MOR and MBIA Candidate Forum Review

by jhwygirl

Don’t miss Bunk the West’s review of Tuesday’s candidate forum held by the Missoula Area Chamber of Commerce, the Missoula Organization of Realtors and the Missoula Building Industry Association at the Broadway Inn.

Ward 1 challenger Ryan Morton takes Bunk to task for restating that which the Missoulian reported. I suppose that means he’s requested a correction from the paper?

I do, though, especially love Ward 3 candidate John Quandt’s suggestion (as taken from the Missoulian) for maintaining our neglected city park system:

‘Community members who care about their neighborhood can volunteer to mow the lawn, for instance.’

I guess that means if you won’t (or can’t) mow the lawn of your neighborhood park, you just don’t care.

Bunk’s last paragraph is fab. Go read it.

it is a good idea letting neighborhoods take care of neighborhood parks. Volunteers are more cost effective and will take care out of enlightened self interest. And its clear who the “more government is the answer to everything” candidates are.

  2. Goof, is it a good idea letting neighborhoods take care of neighborhood fires? I hear that volunteers are more cost effective and will take care out of enlightened self interest.

    What’s the difference?

      “public safety”

      duh

and Most towns and rural areas DO use volunteer fire departments, so for the geographical majority of Montana, the answer to your question is “yes” however, class I cities are required by law to have a professional fd.

To be fair, you all could have attended and heard things first hand. Keila got as much as she could in her story just from sitting at tables listening to the conversation. No need to ask for a correction. Binky just makes weird assumptions about me being conservative because I don’t want to overburden people with maintenance districts (that are not SIDs) when they’ve grown accustomed to paying property taxes for the same services. How is that conservative? And exactly how did I “take Binky to task?”

Oh, and the Forum was called “Business Building Community” and was sponsored by more than just the business associations. Hendrickson, O’Herron, and Wilkins were not in attendance.
