Guess I better get a tweetin’

by Pete Talbot

The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza has a great blog called The Fix. Besides dishing Washington insider info, he does an annual column on the best political blogs, state-by-state. I’m proud to say that 4&20 usually makes the list.

Now Mr. Cillizza has compiled the best political tweeters from each state. Here’s the link but you’ll have to scroll down a few stories to find his column on “tweeps.”

I’m familiar with most, but not all, the names. For example, our own jhwygirl made the list. I’m not sure who assigned the (D) behind each name but here are the players, copied straight from The Fix site:

EllieHill (D), c_sjohnson, brycebennett (D), JameeGreer (D), montuckyliberal (D), Mike_Wessler (D), jgrennan (D), dpogreba (D), jhwygirl (D), chasemohney (D).

Since I don’t have a Twitter account, I’m running late and I’m technically challenged, I can’t find links for all of the above. Maybe someone could help me out?

Anyway, congratulations. I’m sure about the time I start tweeting, some new technology will make the scene, rendering me obsolete, again.

(Update: The Missoula Independent gives us the links here. Thanks for doing the work, Indy, and a hat tip to p-bear and Mookie.)

  1. just go to this website and start an account pete. then you can follow all those people listed……

    https://twitter.com/signup

there is nothing to it. and it is absolutely indispensible for news about anything you are interested in. the news comes to you rather than you having to go seek the news.

locally i suggest the following news sources as the best twittter accts:
    kpaxnews
    missoulian
    indynews

    nationally:
    motherjones
    nytimes
    chicagotribune
    latimes

after that, you can pick and choose who to follow from anyone’s list once you have more of a feel for what you are interested in. i follow lots of literary and arts sites besides the political sites. even some great fly-fishing sites. good luck. and as soon as you set it up start tweeting. it is fun and far more sociable than blogs.

The Indy ran down the list and ID’d each Twitter handle in a blog post. I found some new folks to follow.

The only good tweeter is a democratic tweeter, apparently.

You said it, not me, goof.

“Since I don’t have a Twitter account, I’m running late and I’m technically challenged,”

I might have said it, Pete, but since you don’t tweet, how would you know one way or another?

One of the most interesting things about the twitterverse is the obvious left wing bias of the media is out and demonstrated and readily “tweeted” by the local news celebrities, print and tv. It’s helpful.

    • I like Rep. Mike Miller of HD84 (ovando/helmville ways). we may not agree all the time, but he is engaging.

Let’s see….Aaron Flint, northernbroadcasting news guy – he’s also engaging and I probably agree even a little less with him than with Libertarian-leaning Miller (who has left a comment or two here over the years).

And who doesn’t enjoy a good healthy disagreement now and then. So I don’t mean pointing out that I disagree w/these two every once in a while as a horrible bad thing. They’re nice guys, and I enjoy tweeting with them.

      Someone from 2helenahandbag, a conservative-leaning blog, is tweeting…

who else…there are several more worth following that I can’t think of right now..but a few I am intentionally leaving off..but anyone else is, of course, free to add.

  4. Ryan Emmett Morton

if you’d like to be offended regularly, i’m under ‘ryandelasiesta’ and tweet occasionally on human rights, energy, and local government bills… Consider yourselves warned: I have a potty mouth when I’m angry.

  5. Rob Chaney of the Missoulian is following two huge stories that have to be related.

The Smurfit-Stone sale replete with copious water rights to somebody calling themselves Ralston Investments comes in the wake of the news that the Carlyle Group will buy Missoula-based Mountain Water. If this doesn’t scare the shit out of you watch Blue Gold: World Water Wars.
