Still More – Yes More – National Attention on the MT GOP

by jhwygirl

We first wrote about Montana’s HD Rep. Joe Read a few weeks ago. Read, as you may recall, has proposed a bill – HB549 – that says that global warming is good for Montana.

The Colbert Report’s Stephen Colbert picked up on Read’s bill, and did a really nice segment the other night.

Who doesn’t love Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finger?

Since I wouldn’t know how to embed this, please enjoy this segment that begins with the words “Opinions are like assholes, in that I have more than most people.”

Love this, from Stephen: “OK, it’s law now. A reasonable amount of CO2 – which means any amount produced in Montana – has no verifiable effect on global warming. Just as a reasonable amount of science has no verifiable effect on Joe Read.”

Fortunately, the House Natural Resources has the good sense to table the thing. Wish I knew the vote.

I believe it was a unanimous vote to table.

Off topic, but … Another story Stewart or Colbert might jump on is the small burg of Evergreen. MT, trying to do its part to shrink the national debt and how absurdly difficult, time consuming that is. They can’t simply write a check back to the feds for the unused earmark. Mont. Sen. Jon Tester is working to get a bill passed through Congress, since the town wants to return the unused money. Seems like the system should make it easier for towns, states to return $$$. Wonder how many other ‘drops in the bucket’ are out there all over the country that might add.

  4. I think the voters who inflicted Rep. Read on the legislature have some explaining to do. Did they know he would offer such nutball legislation? Did they care?

In fact, the voters in a lot of districts, including HD-4 in Whitefish, once thought to be an enlightened community, need to explain why they thought they were improving Montana by voting for the likes of Derek Skees, Bob Wagner, John Esp, Mike More, Krayton Kerns; the list goes on and on. Together, these reactionaries comprise a mirror that reflects a image of an ignorant and cruel electorate.

Our friends and neighbors are in the initial stages of executing a civic murder-suicide pact. I’d like to know why.

And here is what was on the front page of MSNBC.com as part of their daily photoblog:

“Tea Partiers hold a “Constitution Rally” on the steps of the Montana State Capitol and bring guns”

About a hundred really nice comments in the photoblog, too. Here’s a smattering:

“What a bunch of wacko, wannabee Wyatt Earps. This country is going to hell! Gun rights, my ass.”

“How many showed up? It looks like at least three or four. So, celebrate your constitution and bring your machine gun. What a group of idiots… all men with short pe(k=rs!”

“We get it, you have a boner for your gun and you have the legal right to carry it. Now stop scaring children and go back to your remote shack in the woods.”

“Real men don’t need guns to prove themselves. The Tea Party (aka Republicans) are really just insecure individuals who lack the intelligence to realize that the second amendment was not written to bolster their paranoid ego.”

“Is this what this country has come to? Really? What a bunch of losers who have nothing better to do than parade around the capitol building carrying guns because the are too big a bunch of pussys to defend themselves any other way.”

“They hand out little constitution bibles like handing out water, yet are constitution is pretty much useless because the Supreme Court has been sold to the nut bags like the wealthy Koch brothers that believe the constitution was really created to protect the wealthy class and a tool to create such great wealth that no other class can compete.”
