The assault escalates.

The governor of Michigan is trying to force through the legislature a bill that would establish emergency rule, LITERALLY. Gov. Snyder is seeking emergency powers that would enable him to 1) unilaterally declare a “financial emergency”, 2) disincorporate entire municipal governments, 3) dismiss elected officials with no replacement election to follow, 4) seize control of local civil services, 5) hand taxpayer money, services and POWERS to private, for-profit firms.

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.–Romans 1:28

It’s ironic and deliberate that Jeff Laszloffy of the Montana Family Foundation would quote the above biblical passage in one of his most recent anti-anything tirades (“The Montana Legislative Update”). The whole piece is an attack on 4&20 contributor, and Montana Human Rights Network badass Jamee Greer.

Like Gary Marbut, Jeff can’t get over the fact that Jamee can walk, talk, “book learn,” and be gay all at the same time. Jeff is stunned because, and he says this, people like Jamee have “depraved minds.” (I know what you’re thinking, Jeff Laszloffy said someone else has a depraved mind? Isn’t that like Larry Flynt calling someone a pervert?)

What’s troubling isn’t so much which portion of the bible Jeff quoted, it’s what he didn’t quote. He didn’t quote the ChristianRight rallying portion of Romans that comes right before what he did quote: Chapter 1 Verses 26-27.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Those are the verses used by the Westboro Baptists during their many protests at funerals and anything they think is “fag enabling.”

Jeff  just quoted the next verse so that we were damn certain he was talking about Jamee’s sex life–something he has an uncomfortably strong obsession with. But by ignoring 26-27  Jeff could come out as anti-gay with a wink and a religious bent, rather than being honest about his dogmatic bigotry like with Phelps family. It’s one of this good ol’ boy moves, a “We all know what I’m talkin’ bout” moment.

It’s a weak tactic, by a weak and fearful man. A guy who huddles himself in a blanket of religious bigotry so that he can feel justified in holding onto First Century beliefs over 2000 years later. I feel bad for the guy, honestly, because he’s such a willfully ignorant person. You could tell Jeff how all species have occurrences of homosexual behavior, and he would strike back with, “Nah. God don’t like that!” He’d say that because he has absolutely no understanding of the modern world, or science, or anything. He’s a puts.

And still I feel bad for him because we keep finding out that hate mongers like Jeff secretly have boyfriends “lifting their luggage.” The more he attacks Jamee, and the more he focuses on the sex life of gay men the more certain I feel I will not be shocked if Jeff (note I say IF, IF! I don’t know IF he is gay) is revealed to be a closet case. As far as I am concerned, anyone spending as much time thinking of sex with other men as Jeff Laszloffy, has a decent shot of being found with a Rent Boy.

Oh, and a closing thought, Paul’s Epistle to the Romans also seeks death for those who have pictures of reptiles and statues of humans. So maybe we shouldn’t listen to Paul. He was kind of an idiot.
