MT GOP Are Hypocrites With a Capital “H”

by jhwygirl

I’ve been able to listen to some of the Free Conference HB2 budget hearing today and I have to say I’m thoroughly disgusted.

A short summary might be something like this: Dems Sen. Carol Williams and Rep. John Sesso make motion after motion to replace federal funding into the budget and every amendment was rejected. With little to no discussion.

This is money that Schweitzer has said will be one of the reasons for his promised veto of the budget: It is federal funding that will go to another state if we don’t take it.

The amount is upwards of $100 million, much of it for social services.

Today the committee sparred, with Lewis jovially leading the charge of not budging on any amendments that I heard offered by Williams or Sesso. There really was – again, I’ve only heard part of it – little to no discussion. Clearly, as this quick report on today’s hearing points out, the Republicans have no intent to negotiate this thing at all.

They want that veto. Keep in mind I use the word “jovially” to describe how today’s hearing played out.

Plainer wording is that the Republicans were downright disrespectful of the legislative process and their fellow legislators. It wasn’t hidden. It was unprofessional and unfitting of someone for whom I’ve expressed respect for in the past. Yet alone the rest of them.

Senator Carol Williams – goddess that she is – has more grace in her baby toenail than all the Republicans I heard joking and jabbing today in committee.

Here’s an idea: Maybe the 18 Republicans that are fond of federal subsidies for their agricultural business should signal to Sen. Dave Lewis (who is heading up the joint committee) that they are more than willing to allow the addition of the federal monies to the state budget.

Either that, or I suggest the hypocrites give their federal subsidy money back, just as they are forcing the disabled and poor of Montana to do.

Hell – Rep. Janna Taylor, a Republican out of Dayton could start the “give back” off with her $1,017,491.

Quite the welfare check, I’d say.

Then there’s a whole other bunch of tea party anti-federal money. Here’s some of the bigger hypocrites:

Sen. Bruce Tutvedt, R-Kalispell, $643,063
Sen. Jim Peterson, R-Buffalo, $637,547
Rep. Lee Randall, R-Broadus, $507,674
Sen. John Brenden, R-Scobey, $497,291
Sen. Taylor Brown, R-Huntley, $473,563
Rep. Keith Regier, R-Kalispell, $380,160
Sen. Donald Steinbeisser, R-Sidney, $241,761
Rep. Daniel Salomon, R-Ronan, $223,865
Sen. Ron Arthun, R-Wilsall, $213,800
Sen. Terry Murphy, R-Cardwell, $188,427
Rep. Mike Milburn, R-Cascade, $141,770
Sen. Debby Barrett, R-Dillon, $123,378
Rep. Christy Clark, R-Choteau, $122,287
Sen. Rick Ripley, R-Wolf Creek, $89,847

  1. Thanks for the sit-rep.
All Repugs are Narcissistic Authoritarians – dysfunctional from Day One no matter where or when they were born. Its Genetic.
They do not have a gene that equates to Compassion and Equality. They are, for the most part Oppressor Envyites the the few at the top are the Fascist/ Capitalists/ oligarchs, plutocrats.

    • I don’t know about all that, but I know recently (in say the last 2 years or so) real sociological studies have been done that say (what I remember) that Republicans have to have structure and rules and they adhere to them and any deviation is difficult for them.

      They don’t like change.

Jay Stevens did a post at Left in the West, and he linked to the studies. Damned if I could find it.

that’s a bit hyperbolic. and speaking in absolutes isn’t really helpful. no group of people is ALL this or ALL that.

The sad reality is that if Montanans can’t figure this one out, we’re all pretty much f*cked beyond hope anyway. I mean, this one really IS a freakin’ no brainer. One hundred million dollars of OUR money to help the needy is NOT even ten missiles fired at Ghaddifi ferrchrissakes! Hell, that ain’t even POCKET bribe money in Iraq and Afghanistan!

Again, people don’t MIND paying taxes as long as we GET sumthin’ for it INSTEAD of givin’ it to the billionaires like the Bircher Kock brothers!

And now, Dopey Reeburp is gonna do his part in congress to make sure that money sent back doesn’t get sent to another state. WHAT AN ASSHOLE!

But we MUST understand what’s going on here. We have Schweitzer, so it’s not total teawacko rule. Hence, they cannot create a budget crisis a la Wisconsin by giving HUGE tax breaks to the wealthy. Hence, the ONLY way left for them to f*ck with the system and create a crisis is THIS! To withhold money from the needy! THEN, when the suffering is massive, and people start dying in the streets for lack of medication, etc., the no good sons of bitches teabastards like bastard lewass can implement the teawacker agenda!

Yes, these are truly the sickest bastards I have ever seen in my long life.

And yes, the Dems down in Helena right now are the greatest folks Montana has to offer. They’re real heroes.

  3. Don’t forget Max on your list – the last time I checked he received more Federal money than anybody on your list.

BTW jhwygirl, the money that they are turning down is money that the federal government has to BORROW, from China or any other country foolish enough to buy our debt. Turning it down is a good start to tackling the crippling debt inflicted on our country by The Great Leader.

  4. Eric – there is no guarantee that that money won’t just be sent to a different state. And as any business knows – if you have good credit (and ours is pretty good, given that the US can’t default on its loans without also collapsing the global economy), you don’t cut back when the economy is down. You invest in your company to make sure your ready to take advantage of the recovery.

Why can’t Republicans run government like a business?

  5. Heather

One senator that has been a complete sell out against the poor and needy is Mary Caferro, ever since she got fired from WEEL, lost her house, and moved in w Republican lobbyist and former legislator Bill Warden she has voted to harm the department of health and human services at every opportunity. It is really disgusting to watch.

[…] screwed, but they can afford a new car so that doesn’t matter. How this tea party, ALEC and agricultural subsidy-loving Senator Janna Taylor from up near Flathead thought that giving away the registration money paid by the seller to the […]
