Montana’s Constitution Thumpers Got Busted Busting Our Constitution

by jhwygirl

In case you missed it, supermontanareporter John S. Adams busted out in his blog this morning with a preview of tomorrow (Tuesday) night’s Frontline on PBS, titled Big Sky, Big Money.

It’s a political “BOOM” if I’ve ever seen one – pulling together a strange connection of a stolen car, a meth dealer, the Montana GOP and American Traditions Partnership, ProPublica paired up with Frontline, releasing their report this morning.

I’m still reading through it all, but all I can say right now is that I’m really disgusted. What the ProPublica/Frontline report lays out is NOT a group of one or two bad individuals, but really an institutionalized and flagrant disregard for Montana law.

For a party that attempts to Lord some sort of moral superiority over Democrats. Or liberals. Or progressives – it’s a pretty sickening case of hypocrisy. They like the salutation “Patriot”? More like “Traitor.”

What’s clear is this: The Montana GOP are running candidates that are flagrantly violating established Montana law. This isn’t some sort of Ed Butcher bloc of crazies. The ProPublica/Frontline reports on 23 Montana legislators? How many more are there that we don’t know?

These guys swear to uphold the Montana and the U.S. Constitution. Obviously, it means nothing – they’ve got their own interpretation of it, and that’s how they fly.

It’s disgraceful.

Set your DVR’s for 8:30 p.m. tomorrow. Go read What everyone’s talking about: Big Sky, Big Money” over at The Lowdown – he’s got tons of links.

Mission of ATP, according to their very own website:

American Tradition Partnership is a 501(c)(4) grassroots lobbying organization dedicated to fighting environmental extremism and promoting responsible development and management of land, water, and natural resources in the Rocky Mountain West and across the United States.

    • Rob Kailey

Quit wimping out, Kohler. Finish the quote, or are you afraid that people will see the problems with your complain?

“American Tradition Partnership is a 501(c)(4) grassroots lobbying organization dedicated to fighting environmental extremism and promoting responsible development and management of land, water, and natural resources in the Rocky Mountain West and across the United States. Dozens of radical eco-organizations whose stated purpose is to dismantle the free enterprise system – and our Constitutionally protected rights – through so-called environmental protection have set their sights on robbing Americans of the right to exist, achieve and produce.

It’s funny that you would post that begging sympathy at other websites and are frightened to post it here. Okay, not so much funny as truly telling of your cowardice.

Kailey, your mind reading powers are awesome. How did you know what Koelers motivations, private thoughts, and emotions were? You are amazing dude. You are wasting your talents. Why haven’t Teller and Penn hired you for a pretty penny, that’s what I want to know?

  2. “Interpret” the Montana and U.S. Constitution any way you wish. The impotence of states, nation-states, and their constitutions is obvious to many in the face of an imperial system of global capital. As institutions, Democrats, Republicans and ATP all march to the same neoliberal economic mantra and the tiny fraction of “donors” who contribute the vast majority of money to political campaigns.

Speaking of ProPublica and Big Sky, Big Money….

The ProPublica reporters have turned their attention to the Dark Money groups that supported Dems this last election cycle. Read below to see what ProPublica’s in-depth investigation uncovered. Seems pretty clear from this investigation that we have secret, Dark Money groups and individuals threatening our democracy living right here in Missoula and representing Montanans in our state house. Hopefully someone will take this ball and run with it, as this is about the future of DEMOCRACY.

Snips: “The dark money side of Montana Hunters and Anglers, Montana Hunters and Anglers Action!, launched its first TV ad, starring Land Tawney, the group’s gap-toothed and camouflage-sporting president, who also served on the Sportsmen’s Advisory Panel for Tester….No one from Montana Hunters and Anglers returned calls for comment.” Many liberal groups active in Montana, including Montana Hunters and Anglers, were connected through Hilltop Public Solutions, a Beltway consulting firm. Barrett Kaiser, a former aide to Montana’s other Democratic senator, Max Baucus, is a partner at Hilltop and runs its office in Billings….Kaiser was on the board of the Montana Hunters and Anglers dark money group. Another Hilltop employee in Billings served as the treasurer for the Montana Hunters and Anglers super PAC. Hilltop partners in Washington also helped run two other dark money groups that spent money on the Montana race: the Citizens for Strength and Security Fund and the Partnership to Protect Medicare….No one from Hilltop returned calls….”

Additional information about “Montana Hunters and Anglers Action” is below.

SNIPS: “Land Tawney of Missoula, president of the newly formed group…..Tawney, a senior manager for the National Wildlife Federation , wouldn’t reveal the cost of the buy, but sources told the Lee Newspapers State Bureau that it’s between $200,000 and $250,000….In addition to Tawney, its officers include Democratic state Sen. Kendall Van Dyk of Billings; Barrett Kaiser, a Billings communications consultant and former aide to U.S. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont.; and George Cooper, a senior vice president for a Washington, D.C., lobbying firm and former news producer for CNN.”
