Two Items of Interest

There’s a petition out there demanding that Missoula County stop trivializing rape cases. Signatures are up to 6,878 as I type this, and they come from all over the world.

So there’s that. And yea, go ahead and say that 99.99% of these people have no business interjecting into our business. Whatever. But there’s our entry onto the world’s stage people. Keep cheering on Van Valkenburg’s lawsuit. Just keep going.

Secondly, Eric Hines – a University of Montana adjunct professor of political science – has tackled the question of whether the USDOJ has jurisdiction over Fred Van Valkenburg’s office. I recommend everyone read it. It’s titled, interestingly enough: Does the DOJ have the right to investigate the Missoula County Attorney? Yes, or Why Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg is wrong.

  1. Boy, you guys are all over this each day. I can’t get that Hines link to work, by the way.

    • Fixed that link, Greg. Thanks for catching that.

  2. Debra Ricci

Several years ago I was dating an ex-NFL football player. He beat me. I reported him several times. A deputy county attorney asked me what I did to make him so angry. A police officer ridiculed me and told me he was tired of coming to my home all the time, and threatened to charge me with making too many police reports. I stopped reporting him. He went on to beat me so badly I sustained a traumatic brain injury and am now disabled. I am pretty sure there are other women in Missoula County like me who were not a part of the DOJ study.

    • I am now aware that the DOJ is is looking into this in MANY places. I urge you to contact the DOJ civil rights division & yell them your story & when it happened & whom you remember-police, county attorney(s). If not for you, for the other women at risk.
I am so sorry. The events here are heartbreaking & maddening. Many in the community still see to protect the economy & the town & university’s reputation over the victims here. It’s an uphill battle, one I’m very grateful the DOJ is taking on.
