DJD lives in Montana, works in Montana, and writes in and about Montana…so…what exactly discounts him from being a “Montana writer”?

I would love to answer, but this is a case where my honesty just might cause some hard feelings. Let’s just say that I’m not enamored of Dunkin’s work. And therefore, regardless of what others may do, I personally don’t claim him as a Montana author. And I kinda resent him being portrayed as a Montana author. Western author, maybe. But Montana, no. That title is reserved for those special people that really DID write Montana. James Welch, Dorothy Johnson, A.B. Guthrie, K.Ross Toole, Ivan Doig, etc., etc. Dunkin’ isn’t worthy to wash the jockstraps of these people! That’s all. Others are free to contradict what I say, but Dunkin’s work is there for all to see.
